New Locations at Gangnam Station, Shinsegae Department Store and Yeoju Premium Outlets Reflect Restaurant Chain’s International Appeal and Rapid Growth in the Country
(Aliso Viejo, Calif.) Nov. 15, 2011 – Johnny Rockets announces the opening of two new restaurants in Seoul, at Gangnam Station and Shinsegae Department Store, and a third at the Yeoju Premium Outlets as part of the company’s planned expansion into the Korean market. Johnny Rockets opened the restaurants in partnership with Shinsegae Food Co. LTD, a subsidiary company of Shinsegae Group, owner and operator of department and discount stores throughout Korea. The new restaurants opened in the span of one week between Oct. 14 and 21, the fastest opening of three international locations in Johnny Rockets’ history.
“Partnering with Johnny Rockets to bring a slice of Americana to South Korea has been a rewarding experience,” said Ryan Park, assistant manager for Shinsegae Food Company. “We are proud to be a part of the Johnny Rockets family and look forward to a long and beneficial relationship as we continue to meet Korea’s growing demand for Hamburgers and traditional American fare.”
The new restaurants feature Johnny Rockets’ signature American favorites, including made-to-order Hamburgers, Shakes and American Fries set within the brand’s classic décor and feel-good atmosphere. The Korean locations also integrate regional specialties such as a spicier version of Johnny Rockets’ homestyle chili and Cass beer, a popular local-brewed beer.
The first of the three new locations opened on Oct. 14 at Gangnam Station, the busiest subway station in the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system and a bustling commercial and entertainment district. The 1,993-square-foot restaurant is the largest of Johnny Rockets’ five locations in South Korea. The Yeoju Chelsea Johnny Rockets opened on Oct. 19 at the Yeoju Premium Outlets, Korea’s first premium designer outlet mall, followed by the Shinsegae Department Store location on Oct. 21.
“When we launched our partnership with Shinsegae Food Company and entered the Korean market earlier this year, our initial goal was to open five Johnny Rockets restaurants over the next five years,” said Steve Devine, Johnny Rockets senior vice president of international development. “However, we met that goal in less than nine months with the opening of our three newest South Korea locations last month.”
“Our successful and rapid growth in South Korea is a testament to both the focus and determination of our partner Shinsegae Food Company, as well as to the simplicity of the Johnny Rockets brand,” added Devine. “The fact that one of our newest franchise partners can open five Johnny Rockets restaurants almost halfway around the world from our Restaurant Support Center over a period of eight months, speaks very clearly to the overall simplicity of our brand and support provided from the corporate office.”
