Johnny Rockets' Brightest Star's Music Career Takes Off
All-American Diner Salutes One of Its Veteran Servers, Yahzarah
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (September 18, 2003)—Washington, D.C. native Yahzarah (a.k.a. Dana Williams) has been singing everywhere from her hometown to international stages since the age of seven. Johnny Rockets, home of the Original hamburger, has provided one of the hometown stages for the rising star, first while she was a singing Johnny Rockets server in Georgetown and recently for her new music video, “Wishing.”
Yahzarah began singing at Johnny Rockets as a high school student at Washington, D.C.’s prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She went on to attend North Carolina Central University on a full scholarship for Music Business. While a student in North Carolina, Yahzarah landed a gig as back-up singer for Erykah Badu, launching her international singing career, and eventually her own solo career. Her video, “Wishing,” was partially filmed at the Georgetown Johnny Rockets, and airs on Black Entertainment Television (BET).
“We’re extremely proud of Yahzarah and happy to support her in her musical endeavors,” said Mimi Schiffer, senior vice president of marketing for The Johnny Rockets Group, Inc. “We look forward to tracking her many successes, and, of course, her ongoing guest appearances in Johnny Rockets restaurants across America!”
With a name that is a combination of both of her grandmother’s names and means, “queen mother is the brightest star,” Yahzarah creates music that is a blend of jazz and neo-soul. Many of her influences include artists that are also on the Johnny Rockets play list, including Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.
“Rocking out to old-school classics at the Georgetown Johnny Rockets is one of my favorite memories—I would love to go back sometime and sing with the servers,” said Yahzarah. “Thanks to Johnny Rockets, I can still make a mean milkshake.”
Yahzarah, who is signed under the Three Keys Music label, will release her debut album, “Blackstar” on September 23, 2003.
